Spartanburg’s Best Restaurants for Vegans and Vegetarians

Going meatless? Eating a vegetarian or vegan diet has never been easier or more delicious.

As these lifestyles grow in popularity, restaurants are starting to add more meat- and dairy-free menu items that are actually exciting, filling, and nutritious (unlike that plain ol’ garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette you’ve probably been ordering for years).

So, whether you’re craving savory cheeseburger, want to satisfy your sweet tooth with an artisan donut, or need to rehydrate with some fresh-pressed juice, Spartanburg has got you covered with vegan and vegetarian options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between!

Vegan Restaurants in Spartanburg

Health in Hand

Socially conscious vegans rejoice, because not only is Health in Hand almost completely devoid of animal-based products (the only non-vegan item on their menu is local honey, which can always be swapped for agave), but they also strive to be completely zero-waste!

Get in a couple servings of fruit with a delicious smoothie or smoothie bowl, refuel with a wholesome bowl of overnight oats or veggie-packed wrap, and wash it all down with invigorating fresh-pressed juices like the Turmeric Sunrise or Coco Loco and feel great about what you’re putting into your body.

Lime Leaf

We say we’re an international hub with international tastes, and Lime Leaf is a shining example of exactly what we mean by that—plus they’re vegan-friendly!

Made with a creamy coconut milk base and global ingredients like bamboo shoots, peanuts, chili pepper, and basil, all of the classic curry dishes at this Thai fusion restaurant are vegan and can be filled out with additional veggies or topped-off with tofu. Plus—as is tradition for Thai restaurants—each of these dishes can be prepared to your preferred level of spiciness, so you can either keep it light and enjoy the night, or crank up the heat for a kick while you eat.

The Eatery

A brick-and-mortar spinoff of one of our area’s most beloved food trucks, The Eatery now offers a separate, fully-vegan menu complete with robust grain bowls, signature salads, mouthwatering tacos, and more!

Usually only open until 3pm, this is a prime breakfast or lunch spot, though they have been known to host special vegan chef dinners with five unbelievable plant-based courses. Just be sure to check out their Facebook page before your visit so you don’t miss out on one of these exclusive experiences.

Hub City Farmacy

Hub City Farmacy is a half-restaurant, half-meal prep service offering organic fare that can be made however you like—meat-free, dairy-free, or completely plant-based.

All of their sides are vegan, plus they also have a veggie burger that can be finished off with a cashew cheese so delectable that it rivals the real thing. The salad sampler is another must-try; get yours topped with your three favorite veggies, cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, micro greens, and house Italian dressing for a real treat.

Honorable Mentions: Downtown Deli & Donuts , Monarch Cafe , and Growler Haus don’t specialize in vegan cuisine, but they each offer special vegan menus on select days of the week giving you even more options to choose from.

Vegetarian Restaurants in Spartanburg

Stone Soup

What would you say to thick pieces of french toast, hearty breakfast quesadillas, Florentine eggs Benedict, fluffy southwest omelettes, or a farmer’s market skillet that’s overflowing with seasonal vegetables and topped with hollandaise? We know we’d be saying, “Yes please!”

As good as all that sounds, Stone Soup has perfected more than just the the vegetarian brunch, though; you’ll also find a specialty foods market with high-quality, local and imported goods, a dog park where your fur babies can romp and frolic in the fresh air and sunshine, and a strong sense of community in every warm smile and genuine greeting of, “How y’all doin’?”

Pokenori

Did somebody say sushi burrito?! Pokenori brings island flavors to the Upstate with fresh poké bowls, burrito-style seaweed wraps, and salads that can be packed with nutritious veggies and topped with your choice of protein.

Choose from any of the menu items for a tried-and-true classic, or opt for custom poké and select your own ingredients where the combinations are endless! Oh, and do yourself a favor and get an order of delicately harumaki spring rolls or hot miso soup while you’re there—trust us.

Heirloom – A Milltown Eatery

Treat yourself to an authentic taste of Spartanburg at Heirloom as you sample ingredients sourced from local suppliers and farms.

No matter your preferences, you can tantalize your tastebuds with just the appetizers alone! Opt for the house pickle plate for a tart start, the cornbread and sorghum butter for a savory snack, or the biscuits and jam for a little pre-dinner sweet treat. From there, choose your own adventure with a couple of small plates; mix-and-match with the Hoppin’ John Hushpuppies, Sweet Potato Stacks, Pimento Cheese, Brussel Sprouts, Seasonal Greens, or Tea Drop Deviled Eggs. Finally, fill up on the Roots to Tips Pasta, or Garden Vegetable Wrap. Now that’s elevated meatless dining at it’s finest!

These eateries are just the tip of the iceberg (and no, that’s not just a salad joke). Most restaurants have multiple vegetarian dishes, and more and more are adding vegan options every day, so be sure to check back often as our foodie town continues to find new ways to serve up plant-based foods.
