Come see some of the best high school football players in the Carolinas take the field at the 74th annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. A Carolinas’ tradition of overflowing generosity and unequaled athletic excellence, the annual Shrine Bowl game is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious high school football all-star game in America.

Players from South Carolina will face off against their neighbors from North Carolina on Saturday, Dec. 18, at Gibbs Stadium at Wofford College in Spartanburg.  Kick-off is at 1 p.m.  Game tickets are $10 general admission and $20 reserved seating.

The Shrine Bowl Parade will precede the game, beginning at 10 a.m., from downtown Spartanburg to the stadium.  Gates open at 10:30 a.m., and pre-game activities, including player and coach introductions, begin at noon.

Team Spartanburg Sports Council is supporting the event, which is played to benefit the Greenville (S.C.) Unit Shriners Hospital for Children and 21 other Shriners Hospitals across the nation.  Last year’s game receipts and temple contributions raised $1.4 million. Since the first Shrine Bowl in 1937, more than $69 million has been raised for Shriners Hospitals.

“We are proud to continue our tradition of providing assistance to this exciting and prestigious high school football all-star game, the nation’s oldest Shrine Bowl,” says Chuck Dixon, chair of Team Spartanburg.  “Everything they do is for the children, and Spartanburg enthusiastically supports the Shriners in this endeavor.”

Nick Saban, head coach of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, will be the guest speaker at the Shrine Bowl Coaches and Players Awards Banquet at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, at the Spartanburg Marriott at Renaissance Park.  Tickets are $40 and are available by calling the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas office at 1-800-648-BOWL.
