Guys Weekend in Spartanburg

In need of a solid man-cation with your friends? Spartanburg has some great options for spending that quality time hanging out and catching up with your guys.

Where to Stay

Spend your nights under the stars at Croft State Park

Full of natural beauty and history, setting up camp at Croft State Park gives you the convenience of staying within a 20-minute drive of downtown all while sleeping under the stars. This former WWII Army training facility features miles of trails for hiking or biking, in addition to fishing and boating on Lake Craig — perfect for that guys weekend spent outdoors.

If you and your friends want to spend a bit more time downtown during your weekend, then check out the AC Hotel Spartanburg and the Spartanburg Marriott. The fun doesn’t have to stop downtown though since both hotels offer bars where you can grab that night-cap before you rest up for your next adventure.

Not sure where you want to stay and want to see a full list of area hotels? We’ve got you covered.

What to Do

Spartanburg is dedicated to the outdoors, and with over 120 miles worth of trails for you and your guys to check out there will always be more to explore

If you happened to bring your own kayaks or maybe a canoe, head over to Lake Cooley and spend your day paddling the 330-acre reservoir. Don’t have a boat but still want to soak up the sun on the water? Croft State Park’s Lake Craig has fishing boats, canoes, and kayaks all available  for rent for a couple of hours or the whole day.

South Carolina’s first Bicycle Friendly Community, Spartanburg is a great place to ride on two wheels

Spartanburg is dedicated to the outdoors, and with over 120 miles worth of trails for you and your guys to check out there will always be more to explore for the next time you visit. If you would rather bike than enjoy a hike, then you’re in luck because Spartanburg was the first South Carolina city to be named a Bicycle Friendly Community. From the 102.7 mile journey known as the Assault on Mt. Mitchell, to the Bike Park at The Rail Yard, Spartanburg  can be a great place to spend time on two wheels for you and your friends.

Put the pedal to the metal and drift around corners behind the wheel of some of BMW’s top-performing cars. With an off-road course showing off the locally-made X Series’ capabilities, and a track experience you’ll never forget, it’s easy to have a great time at the East Coast’s only BMW Performance Center.

In between the excursions you have planned, you’re going to need to refuel and Spartanburg has you covered with some great options to check out before your next adventure.

Start your day off with a Bloody Mary and a breakfast burger when you check out brunch at Dray Bar + Grill in Drayton Mills. While you can get your typical eggs, sausage, and bacon for  breakfast; don’t just stop there when you can go all in and treat yourself to the steak and eggs during your man-cation?

Stop those sweet tooth cravings with Downtown Deli and Donut’s crafted donuts

Maybe you guys are looking for something a little sweeter for breakfast? Downtown Deli and Donuts serves up handmade donut creations just for you, in addition to their delicious breakfast sandwiches like the Red Rooster, a biscuit with fried chicken, cheddar cheese, and sausage gravy.

Opened in January 2020, the Flock Shop is a great place to grab lunch with your friends just outside of downtown. Serving Nashville-style hot chicken, you will be in fried chicken heaven no matter which level of spice you get your food. If you’re looking for recommendations, then grab the Freebird sandwich flock-style for the full experience,  and you can’t forget the pimento mac-n-cheese and Rail Trail Pale brewed locally in collaboration with RJ Rockers.

Since 1961, Sugar-N-Spice has served Spartanburg residents and visitors dishes “a-plenty”

While the Flock Shop may be new to Spartanburg, you can’t go wrong with one of Spartanburg’s more established food staples, Sugar-N-Spice. For over 50 years, this spot has served up a slice of ‘Americana’ with their burgers, just be sure to get yours “a-plenty” for that signature Spartanburg style.

Before you hit the town for the night, be sure to fill up on pizza from Sidewall Pizza in the Montgomery Building downtown. Whether you all like pineapple on your pizza or the more traditional toppings like pepperoni, there’s something for you and your guys to share at Sidewall.

Spend one night of your man-cation treating yourself, and there’s no better way than at The Kennedy. Start your dinner with a round of oysters before you dig into the grilled ribeye cooked to perfection for a dinner you and your stomach won’t forget. It also helps that their drinks menu is chock full of options to start your night on the town off right.
