2019: Year In Review

Now that the confetti is cleaned up, your resolutions are set, and the champagne has stopped bubbling it’s time to look back at everything that 2019 brought Spartanburg.

Food & Drink

Food lovers rejoice! Last year Spartanburg saw new restaurants open up to eager eaters throughout the county with fresh choices and new concepts.

Housed in the newly renovated Montgomery Building, Sidewall Pizza opened it doors in October with their specialty pizzas and handmade ice cream. It doesn’t matter if you like pineapple on your pizza or if you enjoy the customization of a build-your-own style, Sidewall has a pizza just for you.

Looking to enjoy a southern style dinner while visiting Spartanburg? Make your way towards the Westgate Mall and visit Heirloom: A Milltown Eatery which opened its doors in February at the former Spartan Mills headquarters. With Instagram-worthy dishes, this restaurant honors the traditions of our county and uses fresh ingredients from local farmers.

Another addition to the culinary scene last year was Holy Mōlli, which offers up a fresh take on traditional Mexican inspired dishes. While you can still enjoy staples like a chicken burrito or tacos, you can also take it a step further and experience a tempura-fried steak sushi roll.

Spartanburg’s craft beer seen got a little bigger in 2019 with Plankowner Brewing cracking open a cold one in Boiling Springs. Come visit during events likes Bands & Brews and find your new favorite beer from one of the 20 beers on tap, or just sit back and enjoy one of their tasty sandwiches.

Last year, Spartanburg hosted 94 teams for the USA Softball Junior Olympic Cup and Training Camp at the Tyger River Park. This tournament gives USA Softball scouts the ability to check out the up and coming talent for future Olympics and Team USA competitions. We’re also proud to announce that the USA Softball Junior Olympic Cup will return in 2020 to Tyger River Park.

Celebrating 25 years, the Carolina Panthers again held their Training Camp on the grounds of Wofford College near Downtown Spartanburg. This unique experience lets fans see their favorite players up close and offers an inside look at what it takes to prepare for an NFL regular season.
