Downtown Spartanburg has even been designated as a cultural district by the South Carolina Arts Commission. Within the cultural district, you can walk to and enjoy world-class art galleries, studios, music venues, breweries, culinary arts, local literature publishers, coffee shops, libraries, museums, and more. The mission of the West Main Artists cooperative is to create a community of artists wherein members mentor and support one another.

Chapman Cultural Center

Mayfair Art Studios

Mayfair Art Studios, a division of Chapman Cultural Center, is a dynamic arts facility in the Arcadia village of Spartanburg, South Carolina, with a diverse creative community that joins together to learn about and make art, discover each other’s cultures, and builds a new, vibrant, and economically sustainable community in Spartanburg County. Inside Mayfair, you’ll discover 14 individual artist studios featuring public open studio hours and hourly rental options including: 1 large co-work studio for fiber arts, 3D art, and more; 1 large co-work studio for ceramics including 20 wheels; 7 music studios for lessons, rehearsals, and podcasting; 2 dance/movement studios; 2 exhibit and event spaces; and 1 photography studio.

Proud Mary Theatre Company

The mission of the Proud Mary Theatre Company is to present LGBTQ+ voices and stories in Spartanburg and the entire Upstate region through theatrical plays: compelling dramas, rib-tickling comedies, campy musicals, and local original works and avant-garde pieces that celebrate diversity and tolerance.

Spartanburg Art Museum

Spartanburg ArtWalk

ArtWalk is a free, self-guided tour of art galleries in downtown Spartanburg that takes place on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 5–8pm.

Spartanburg Downtown Cultural District

This area includes 21 indoor live performance venues; nine outdoor performance venues; 43 galleries or exhibit spaces; 38 murals and other public art displays; five museums; 64 studios and workshops; six historic sites; 15 green spaces and arboretums; 251 creative industry and cultural jobs; and 1,335 events and festivals open to the public.

Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium

Christened the ‘Showplace of the South’ in 1951, Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium is one of the finest theaters in the country, with seating capacity of 3244 and one of the largest stages in the southeast.

Spartanburg Music Trail

The Spartanburg Music Trail honors musicians from Spartanburg who have made a national or international impact in the world of music. The stops highlight artists in such genres as country, gospel, soul, rock ‘n’ roll and more. Ultimately the trail will circle the downtown as new inductees are added.

Spartanburg Philharmonic

For 90 seasons, Spartanburg Philharmonic has been delighting audiences of all ages. Our mission is to enrich, inspire, and educate through live performances.

Spartanburg Repertory Opera

Spartanburg Repertory Opera produces up to four major productions each year, including an educational program for local students, and specializes in standard repertoire from the traditions of light opera, operetta, and musical theatre.
