FRESH | Where Does Your Food Come From?

Want to know where your food comes from?

The City of Spartanburg is booming but so are the fields and farms in the county. For years, Spartanburg County has been the sweet spot for peach lovers near and far. It is rumored that Spartanburg County at one time produced more peaches than the entire state of Georgia, which lays claims to The Big Peach. In the South, we love our bragging rights just about as much as we love our peaches, and we know for a fact that Spartanburg peaches are the best to be found anywhere in Dixie. We even have a peach-flavored beer. But peaches are just the tip of the food chain in Spartanburg.

Throughout the city, towns, and county, there are farms producing both an incredible abundance and variety of crops, most of which you can buy straight off the vine, tree, or bush. It doesn’t take long to drive by a roadside stand or farmers’ market in Spartanburg, and with the extended growing season, something locally grown is always in season. Insider’s tip: Want fresh strawberries for Christmas dinner? How about hops when brewing your own stout? Both can be found in Spartanburg. You can buy as little or as much as you like. Heck, you might even get to pick blueberries, tomatoes or okra yourself, which can be a learning experience for the kids. Many of these enterprises are small family-own businesses. Some are large family-owned businesses. No matter who owns them, they are share a respect for the land and take great pride in growing food that can make its way from the farm to the table via your own basket.

Several local restaurants have partnered with local farmers to provide some of the best farm-to-table experiences to be found anywhere. Farmers keep seasonal hours, so be sure to check out availability using the directory below. When looking for that down-home taste, nothing is better than food grown locally, sold locally, prepared locally, and eaten by you.
