Spend a Romantic Weekend in Spartanburg

When’s the last time you surprised your wife with a weekend trip? Or took your boyfriend out for an evening on the town? It can be so easy to fall into the same old date night routines, or let the daily grind otherwise get in the way of fun, quality time with the people who mean the most to us.

Remind your partner of just how much you cherish them and how important your beautiful relationship is by planning a romantic getaway to Spartanburg—South Carolina’s best kept secret. Come forget about life for a while as you get lost together in our extraordinary restaurants, luxurious hotels, and all the other shops, events, and activities we have around every corner.

Breakfast at Mon Amie Morning Cafe

Start your day with breakfast at the charming Mon Amie Morning Cafe. As you walk through the doors of this upscale restaurant on the east side of Spartanburg, you’ll feel as if you were transported straight to Paris—the city of love—thanks to the French-inspired decor.

Take a seat at one of the cozy tables and order a steaming hot Cafe au Lait, and enjoy each others company as you wait for your breakfast. Whether you woke up with a sweet tooth or a craving for something savory, their extensive menu has you covered with dishes spanning the full spectrum of flavors. Plus, they serve breakfast all day, so you don’t have to worry about sleeping in past crepe o-clock!

Couples Massage at The Healing Place

Once you’ve had the most important meal of the day, head off for a rejuvenating couple’s massage at The Healing Place.

We all carry around the tension of everyday life—wrapping up that huge project at work, getting the kids to school on time, keeping your home clean, the list goes on—feel all that stress start to melt away as you experience the therapeutic effects of this relaxing treatment. Just close your eyes and let their experienced massage therapists work their magic on your muscles.

Want to really spoil your sweetheart? Opt for the 90-minute couple’s massage instead of the 60-minute!

Check-In at the Inn on Main

Whether you’re visiting us as an out-of-town guest or checking in for a little staycation, indulge in the ultimate romantic experience by booking a stay at the Inn on Main—a bed and breakfast right in the heart of Downtown Spartanburg.

As you head up to your historic guest room which is beautifully outfitted with ornate furnishings and essential amenities, explore the Inn’s warm, inviting common areas and breezy verandas. Once you’ve made it to your suite and put your bags down, take a nice, hot bath in your room’s private soaking tub (another treat for those muscles) before luxuriating in your gorgeous queen-sized bed for a quick catnap to rest up before taking on the rest of your day.

Lunch at Southside Smokehouse & Grille

Now that you’re rested, relaxed, and squeaky clean, take a scenic trip just up the road to Landrum for a scrumptious lunch at Southside Smokehouse.

Owned and operated by SC Chef Ambassador Sarah McClure, this farm-to-table favorite serves up classic comfort foods with a twist you won’t be able to resist like Cajun-style hamburgers, St. Louis-style ribs, and fried alligator if you’re feeling adventurous and want to try something new. Just be sure you both order different dishes so you can each sample off each other’s plate. And with a full bar, why not order a locally brewed beer, your favorite glass of wine, or one of their signature cocktail (after all, it is a holiday).

Pro Tip: If you come on a beautiful, sunny day, ask to be seated on their patio and engage in a friendly little corn hole competition—winner buys the next round of drinks!

After your tummies are filled with smoky goodness, go check out a few of Landrum’s antiques shops which sit beautifully along the street in front of the towering Blue Ridge Mountains. Try heading to two different shops and picking out surprise gifts for each other that you can look back on for years to come and remember your day together.

Spend the Afternoon Downtown

Sure you could plan your trip down to the minute, but we think you should leave room for a little spontaneity. Stroll walkable Downtown Spartanburg and wander into a shop or two for unique fashion, outdoor, and pet goods; pop into a brewery and try a flight of beer as you chat with some locals; rent a couple of bicycles and take a spin through a nearby park; stimulate your minds at the Chapman Cultural Center; or simply check out our events calendar to see what’s going on in the area!

Dinner at The Kennedy

You started the day in “France,” now it’s time to travel back in time to the Art Deco era. The Kennedy—owned and operated by another SC Chef Ambassador, William Cribb—is decked out from floor to ceiling in opulent black, white, and gold decor that’ll have you wondering if you accidentally stumbled into romantic Old Hollywood.

But if you think the atmosphere is impressive, just wait until you take a look at their menu. The Kennedy’s food and cocktails are perhaps even more thoughtful than the furnishings and are crafted to perfection.

Still full from lunch? Order some shrimp toast, herbed whipped ricotta, and NC apple salad from their snacks and small plates menus and just graze as you gaze lovingly into each others eyes. Ready for another meal? Well that’s great because they have fabulous chicken-fried quail, house pasta, and pork shoulder—it’s served family-style and is designed to be shared and enjoyed together.

Cap off the Night at Blues Boulevard Jazz

This club’s classic underground location, discreet lighting, local art, and cozy seating create a warm, refined, and exclusive ambiance—an excellent, intimate choice for your romantic retreat.

Let the hospitable staff take care of you as you listen to local artists perform slam poetry and live jazz, or as DJs spin your favorite tracks and you steal a kiss when your song plays. We dare you to try to decide what’s smoother: the sultry jazz riffs or the delightful cocktails named for legendary musicians like Etta James, Miles Davis, and Dizzie Gillespie (spoiler alert: there’s no wrong answer). Open only on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, we suggest you two Take the ‘A’ Train to Spartanburg on one of those nights.

As your Night in Tunisia comes to a close, head back to your room at the inn and crawl into your nice, warm bed for a peaceful evening after your fun-filled day—no kids, no work, no chores, just the love of your life. When you wake in the morning, head down to the dining area for a home-cooked, Southern-style breakfast to fuel up for another bright, new day together.
