There is always something happening at the Chapman Cultural Center….be it a student art exhibit in the hallways of the 47 million facility or an internationally acclaimed opera singer on the stage of the David Reid Theatre. Chapman Cultural Center is the focal point of the arts, science, and history of Spartanburg County. With the financial and oversight help of The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg (a nonprofit agency), nine different cultural organizations provide the visual arts, music, stage performances, scientific wonder, and historical perspective for local citizens reaching thousands of children, students, adults, and out-of-town visitors each year. Most of the programs and performances are at Chapman Cultural Center, located at 200 East Saint John St. in downtown Spartanburg, offering a wide range of entertainment and educational opportunities... from internationally known performers to preschool classes in science. However, through an extensive outreach program, the arts, history and science are provided to thousands of students in the local schools and performances are made possible at other local venues. Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm, the Chapman Cultural Center is open to the public, offering free admission to the Spartanburg Art Museum, Artists' Guild Gallery, Spartanburg Regional History Museum, and Spartanburg Science Center. It is a wonderful facility to explore the cultural makeup of Spartanburg. After many year of planning the Chapman Cultural Center was opened in the fall of 2007. The three-building facility houses many galleries, dance studios, art studios, a gift shop, the 500-seat David Reid Theatre, and various administrative offices for the Partnership agencies. It is where citizens and visitors alike come together to discover, experience, and celebrate the unique culture of Upstate South Carolina. It is also the portal of world-class exhibits and performers that come to Spartanburg, such as Paws & Reflect and the Pointer Sisters.
