The South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind is a specialized instructional institution founded in 1849 by Reverend Newton Pinckney Walker. Of particular interest to visitors is the historic Walker Hall, which was built in the mid-1850’s, and recently renovated. On the Registry of Historic Places, Walker Hall is open to the public by appointment. It features the history of individuals who are deaf, blind and multi-handicapped.
