Spartanburg’s rise as a cultural center has benefited residents and visitors alike, translating into a wide array of live shows and annual festivals all year long.

One reason the community is gaining the reputation as a region known for a high-tech economy, is the BMW ZENTRUM. Located off I-85 in western Spartanburg County and adjacent to the BMW Plant, the Zentrum offers tours for groups and individuals interested in learning about BMW. In addition to high-tech exhibits, the Zentrum features a unique collection of “art cars” designed by famous artists such as Andy Warhol and Frank Stella, as well as BMW racing models. Spartanburg’s plant manufactures the popular Z-4 and X-5 models, and tours of the factory floor can be arranged in advance for a nominal fee.

The SPARTANBURG MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM, with its precision acoustics and high-tech stage show capabilities, attracts top flight entertainers and shows. Stars such as Jerry Seinfeld, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Patti LaBelle and Reba McIntyre have all graced the auditorium’s stage, along with shows ranging from the Phantom of the Opera to Sesame Street Live to Chicago. With a seating capacity of 3,400, the SMA is South Carolina’s largest theatre. Visit www.crowdpleaser.com

Fine arts shows can also be enjoyed on the Converse College campus at TWICHELL AUDITORIUM. Featuring a sound system and architecture that lends itself to acoustically demanding performances, Twichell is the perfect venue for classical and acoustic music, theatrical productions and dance performances. Twichell’s 1,500 seats provide an intimate setting for the fine arts to come to life.

Spartanburg is also home to a variety of annual festivals and events that embrace the growing diversity in the community. In April, May, June, September and October MUSIC ON MAIN brings music to the downtown area every Thursday evening from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Free and open to the public, Music on Main is a great way to unwind, meet friends and enjoy live music outdoors.
